Good to Know

What to Know

WIGGWIGG numbers work differently than a traditional SIM card

Additional number, not a replacement SIM

WIGGWIGG numbers are an extra line on top of your existing phone, not a SIM replacement. No second SIM card, no second device to carry around.

Emergency Services (E911)

Real 911 service on every WIGGWIGG number, free, with your emergency address registered with the carrier for 911 routing (our stored copy is encrypted). Critical emergencies are still best handled from your primary phone (real-time GPS). See how E911 works on WIGGWIGG.

Forwarded calls use your plan minutes

If you choose to forward calls to your existing phone, those count as incoming calls on your primary plan. If you have unlimited incoming calls (most Canadian plans do), there's no extra charge from your carrier. Receiving in the WIGGWIGG app uses internet, not minutes.

What You Need

Requirements for using WIGGWIGG phone numbers

A browser, the app, or a phone to forward to

One is enough: the web app in any browser, or any phone you already own (cell or landline) as a forwarding destination. On iPhone we have nothing to install for you right now. Keep WIGGWIGG open in a tab and that's where it rings.

WIGGWIGG Account

Free account, just create an identity to get started. Add a phone number to that identity to start calling and texting.

Internet for the App or Web

Internet connection required to send and receive in the WIGGWIGG app or your browser. If you choose forwarding, inbound calls and SMS reach your existing phone over the cell network with no internet needed.

A Canadian province for taxes

Phone numbers and their trial require confirmation of a Canadian province or territory of residence. For Vault Premium and extra identities, choose your country at checkout to see available purchases and applicable taxes. The account, vault, contacts, two identities, and the 30-day Vault Premium trial are available everywhere.

Elsewhere: overage fees you discover on the bill.

Here: everything is prepaid, and nothing goes over without your say-so ($0 limit by default).

The same units for all your numbers

Elsewhere: a plan per number, waste on one, empty on the other.

Common Questions About WIGGWIGG Phone Numbers

Do WIGGWIGG phone numbers require internet?

It depends on how you set it up. If you receive in the WIGGWIGG app or your browser, you need WiFi or cellular data. If you forward incoming calls to your existing phone, they reach you over the cell network with no internet needed (incoming SMS forward to mobile only). For sending, you always use the WIGGWIGG app or your browser, which both need internet.

Can people tell the difference between my WIGGWIGG number and a regular number?

To callers, a WIGGWIGG number appears as a regular Canadian number on caller ID. Some services can still detect and reject internet-based numbers, especially for two-factor authentication.

What happens if my forwarding phone is unavailable?

If you've set up forwarding and your forwarding phone is off, out of service, or busy, incoming calls fall back to your WIGGWIGG voicemail (if the voicemail add-on is enabled). You can check voicemail messages in your dashboard. If you receive in the WIGGWIGG app instead, the call rings the app on whatever device you're signed in on.

Can I use WIGGWIGG numbers for two-factor authentication (2FA)?

For most services, yes: SMS verification codes arrive in the WIGGWIGG app or web dashboard, and in practice they are delivered reliably. Two known limits: some banks and payment services refuse internet-based numbers at enrollment, and short codes may not be delivered. For those accounts, keep a mobile number, or better: an authenticator app.

Do forwarded calls use my phone plan minutes?

Yes. When calls forward to your phone, they use your carrier's minutes just like any incoming call. If you have unlimited incoming calls (most Canadian plans do), there's no additional charge from your carrier. You only pay WIGGWIGG's per-minute rate for the forwarding service.

Can I call 911 or emergency services?

Yes. E911 is included free with every WIGGWIGG number; 911 is never blocked. For critical emergencies, dial 911 from your primary phone whenever possible (real-time GPS to dispatchers).

Can I change my forwarding number?

Yes! You can change your forwarding destination anytime in your WIGGWIGG dashboard. Forward to a different cell phone, landline, or even another internet-based number, whatever works best for you.

Can I port my existing phone number to WIGGWIGG?

Porting a number in is not yet offered: WIGGWIGG provides new Canadian phone numbers, so you get a new number when you sign up. Moving your number to another provider is your right. Today it goes through our support: open a support ticket in the app and we handle it at no charge.

Can I switch between in-app delivery and forwarding?

Yes, anytime, per number. In your dashboard you choose how each number behaves: receive in the WIGGWIGG app, receive in your browser, forward to an existing phone, or send straight to voicemail. Switching takes effect on the next incoming call or message.

Can each of my numbers have its own settings?

Yes. Every number has its own default routing action, screening preferences, spam filter, and auto-reply text. They never share settings.

Do I need to use the vault to use a phone number?

No. Every identity includes its vault (encrypted password manager), but using it is optional. Your number works exactly the same whether the vault is empty or full.

How does this fit with identities?

Every WIGGWIGG number belongs to an identity: one bundle with its own number, its own vault (encrypted password manager), and its own contacts. This feature is part of that identity's phone side; the passwords and details that go with it live in the same identity's vault.
